In one's Soul

One cannot find peace in work or in pleasure, in the world or in a convent, but only in one's soul.

There is only one way to win hearts and that is to make oneself like unto those of whom one would be loved.

Remember that it is nothing to do your duty, that is demanded of you and is no more meritorious than to wash your hands when they are dirty; the only thing that counts is the love of duty; when love and duty are one, then grace is in you and you will enjoy a happiness which passes all understanding.

W. Somerset Maugham,
The Painted Veil, 1925

If you feel lost, immerse yourself in love.

  1. Oh Kimmy this is so beautiful and so true. I know you dropped by and have most likely read that I went through s deep depression this winter.

But, finally I am back and it really feels good. My heart is light again. I have begun venturing out to take photos again.

I am also trying very hard to get caught up. This post is especially dear to my heart. Maugham as you know is one of my all time favorites.

Thank you so much for always remaining constant and sharing so much light with us and for us.

    Love and hugs,
    Jackie:-)

  5. Hi Kimmy

It's so sad how people are taught to look outside of themselves, instead of inside, for the love that all of us crave. No one can love and appreciate us better than ourselves.

Also, I wanted to let you know that you have an award waiting for you. You will find the details on my site.

Congratulations and have a great day!
